Sheffield Hallam has signed a partnership agreement with the IET that gives engineering and computing students membership of the professional body.

The University says it is the first in the UK to enrol all of its appropriate students into the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

"The agreement will allow the Department of Computing and the Department of Engineering and Mathematics to use IET materials to support learning across the Faculty, which will enhance our already high standards of teaching. I look forward to working with the IET over the coming academic year."

"This agreement clearly demonstrates the University's vision to provide a high quality and cutting edge learning experience for their students, said Nigel Fine, CEO at IET. "The agreement will give students an opportunity to enhance their learning experience and gain a unique edge in gaining their first professional post."

According to Sheffield Hallam, the agreement will allow up to 3,000 computing, engineering and science students to benefit from the IET's products and services during the 09/10 academic year.

The University says it will use the IET's materials to support the teaching of the professional development modules within their degree programmes.

"Sheffield Hallam University prides itself on its strong links to industry, and membership to the IET will be of great benefit to our students' careers and professional development," said Professor Tony Tricker, Assistant Dean of Academic Planning at Sheffield Hallam.
