Mentor Graphics aims to re-skill European designers

Mentor Graphics has announced the expansion of its Displaced Worker Programme to provide training to design engineers in Europe who are unemployed.

Developed in 2002, the displaced worker programme offers free training on a “space available” basis to displaced electronics designers and engineers.

“In the current economic climate, many people in the electronic design community are looking for new challenges,” said Hanns Windele, v-p sales Europe at Mentor Graphics.

The addition of online courses allows the programme to include engineers from right across Europe.

“Our online, instructor-led training is particularly helpful for displaced workers because the costs associated with travel are removed completely, whilst the students are still able to interact with an expert instructor from their remote location,” said Windele.

There is also classroom sessions at Mentor Graphics training centres in Finland, Italy, Germany, the UK and France.

Qualiftying engineers and designers must meet certain requirements, including at least a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant experience.

Information about the programme, including enrollment forms, can be found at http://www.mentor.com/training_and_services/training/dwp/
