Piezoelectric accelerometer weighs just 0.2g

At 0.2g, this is Meggitt’s smallest piezoelectric accelerometer.

Dubbed the 25A, it features shear mode construction and integral electronics which convert high-impedance input into a low-impedance voltage output through the same cable that supplies the required 4mA constant current power.

“Its lightweight design effectively reduces unwanted mass loading effects,” said the firm. “It is well-suited for measuring overall vibration levels of scaled models and smaller electronic components within aerospace, automotive, electronic products, and in-laboratory testing applications, as well as biomedical research.”

The unit comes attached to two thin (34AWG) field-reparable output leads, allowing for immediate field use. “If required, a new assembly lead may also be reinstalled at the factory,” said Meggitt.

A heavier gauge (28AWG) extension cable is also provided and an optional tri-axial mounting block is available for three-axis measurement.

Signal ground is isolated from the its mounting surface by a hard anodised surface and the units are adhesive mounted, and demountable using a special tool, which is supplied.
