A sustainable energy technology imitative is to get £4.5m on public money to encourage the development of ‘green’ products by UK industry.
The Technology Strategy Board, a government-funded industrial initiative will invest up to £4.5m in new collaborative R&D to industry to create products and services for a sustainable economy.
According to the Board, the objective of this new funding competition, which opens on 3 October 2011, is to help companies with what it said are “currently unmet needs”.
The hope is to encourage the development of products and services in the UK which have a reduced environmental impact compared to current alternatives.
It is also expected to reduce dependence on the use of strategic materials.
“This competition addresses two high-level challenges - reducing the global environmental impact of the materials we use, and reducing our dependence on key raw materials, the supply of which potentially is at risk,” said the Technology Strategy Board.
The Board is holding a networking event to encourage collaborations on 20 September in London.
