Movidius has announced that its Myriad mobile phone media processor supports the Android operating system.
The Linux-based Android operating system developed by Google is growing in importance in the smartphone market and chipset suppliers clearly recognise the necessity to support it in their silicon.
"Consumers are getting more savvy about their mobile phones”, said Sean Mitchell, CEO of Movidius.
The company’s MA1110 chipset and software provides mobile media features including real-time video editing and 3D imaging.
“Handset manufacturers and network operators recognise this and are keen to add unique features such as video editing and now 3D imaging to the next generation of mobile phones,” said Mitchell.
Movidius will be demonstrating the Android version of Myriad at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 15th-18th February 2010.
