A 300mm fab plant for 90nm and 65nm wafer processing is to be built by Fujitsu at its Mie site in central Japan.
Scheduled to come online in April next year, with volume production in September 2005, the plant represents a total investment of just under £1bn.
The plant will have a production capacity of 13,000 wafers per month. It will be designed from the outset to be capable of running multi-project wafers for small production runs, said Fujitsu.
The Mie site currently has 0.18µm and 0.13µm processing for Asics, ASSPs and microprocessors. It processes 11,000 wafers per month.
