Tekelec to introduce 'Sequoia' design-in approach to Europe
Mick Elliott Component distributor Tekelec Europe is to roll out a specialist technical design-in approach across Europe. By the summer, the Paris-based component distributor expects the technical approach, already in use at its UK distributor Sequoia, to be operating in eight countries. France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and Morocco will follow. Nick Lidington, MD of Sequoia in the UK has been named as managing director (Europe) of the operation. "Where we have existing semiconductor distribution operations we will establish a high-technology semiconductor business and rename it Sequoia," explained Lidington. "In other countries such as Italy and Spain we will establish start-up companies." Announcing the plan Dove Attia, president and chief executive officer of Tekelec Europe said: "Sequoia will be the high-tech semiconductor division of Tekelec Europe dedicated to design-in lines which require a strong technical focus. Sequoia is characterised by a high field-applications-engineer to field-sales-engineer ratio." Sequoia's lines range across industry names such as Cirrus Logic, Sharp, Sanyo and Mitsubishi to small niche semiconductor start-ups like cellular and satellite communication IC company CommQuest.
