National Instruments broadens test with LabVIEW 7 Richard Wilson
National Instruments is bidding to widen the market for PC-based virtual test with systems that will run on embedded FPGAs and handheld computers.
The latest version of the firm’s LabVIEW software-based system test platform has been significantly redesigned to increase data acquisition speeds. It also includes a redesigned user interface which the company expects to broaden the test system’s use.
“Our aim is to make virtual test available to a broader range of scientists and engineers,” said Eric Reffett, product manager at National Instruments.
According to Reffett, the software streamlines the data acquisition process lifting the single point acquisition rate from 3 to 55kHz. Also multi-threaded data processing will allow analogue and digital data measurements to be made on the same hardware.
Called LabVIEW 7 Express the software creates
measurement applications which will run on a wider range of target hardware, including FPGAs and Microsoft Pocket PC PDAs.
