Swindon femtocell start-up Ubiquisys has raised $25m in funding from a consortium that includes search engine giant Google.
"The Ubiquisys ZoneGate is currently in trials with a number of leading European operators who see the femtocell as an ideal solution for delivering consumers better in-building coverage, cheaper calls and new innovative services," said Chris Gilbert, CEO of Ubiquisys.
"We expect these European trials to progress to full commercial deployments in the first half of 2008. We're delighted by the confidence our investors have shown in our technology and its ability to deliver innovative applications via ZoneGate's unique services platform.
As well as developing its own femtocell to allow 3G phone users to use their phones cheaper in the home, the company has been working with equipment Netgear to get a femtocell module added to broadband routers, and it is also working with Softbank in Japan on products for the Japanese market.
Ubiquisys provides the software for the femtocell, running on PicoChip's multi-processor array, and the software for the network operator.
All the existing investors - Accel Partners, Atlas Venture and Advent Venture Partners - were part of this round B funding.
