Panasonic UK expansion to focus on DABRichard WilsonDigital audio broadcasting is the focus of a recent expansion at Panasonic's UK-based semiconductor design centre.
The design team at Wokingham is to take design responsibility for Panasonic's chipset programme for the digital audio broadcast (DAB) receiver market.
According to Tony King-Smith, who heads up the semiconductor design team in the UK: "There
is a small established design team at Wokingham, but I was brought in earlier this year to change that into a group focused on key applications and the first is DAB," he said.
The group will carry out hardware and software design for the DAB chipset.
A second generation DAB chipset is due early in 2001. It implements IF A/D conversion and DAB baseband processing. There is a separate RF tuner module.
