Downturn hits telecoms jobs on south coastMelanie Reynolds
Telecoms design firm and manufacturer Hosiden Besson is cutting over a third of its staff due to the down turn in the industry.
The Hove-based company will cut up to 85 jobs from its current staff of 240. Consultations on the job losses are now being held and the cuts will take place at the end of May.
It is not yet clear where the jobs will go. Around 100 staff are employed on the production lines with the rest in engineering or support roles. "With 85 jobs going out of a staff of 240 every department is at risk," said an employee.
The company, which is owned by Japanese electronic component firm Hosiden, makes electronic and acoustic equipment including mobile phone accessories, test equipment and network connection equipment.
