Bookham to cut 100 jobs in SwindonChris Druce Bookham has announced that 100 jobs are to go at its Swindon facility due to the ending of a mini-DIL contract this month.
The company said it wished to control its cost base in market conditions described as "very challenging" by CEO Giorgo Anania. Bookham had already made 80 redundancies at the Swindon site in the first quarter of the year.
"We
continue to look carefully at our cost structure, especially in manufacturing. At the same time, there is plenty of work ongoing with customers to design in our new products," said Anania.
The company also said that it now expects its sales for the second quarter ending July 1 2001, will be approximately 45 to 55 per cent down on the previous quarter.
