Chinese IP network uses IDT NPU

Wednesday 01 February 2006 04:55

Tsinghua Bitway Networking Technology has chosen to use a network search engine from communications IC firm IDT (Integrated Device Technology) in its latest core router.

IDT's 75K62100 enables the router to support IPv6, the next generation Internet protocol, with data rates up to 320Gbit/s, said the firms.

"Momentum is growing for a transition to IPv6 in China driven by millions of new users and devices requiring IP addresses, as well as by demand for new services and increased security that are stretching the limits of the IPv4 standard," said IDT.

Tsinghua Bitway's BitEngine12416 is the first core router in China to support both IPv4 and IPv6, and is currently in service as part of the CNGI (China Next Generation IP) network. This includes network infrastructure being implemented by China Telecom, China Mobile and CNC, as well as CERNET2, which connects Chinese universities in 20 cities.

The IDT 75K62100 NSE offers a pin-compatible family from 2Mbit to 18Mbit densities, dynamic database management, and x36-x576 search capabilities to support both IPv4 and IPv6 forwarding and policy lookups.

In addition to the NSE, the core router also uses an IDT FIFO and an IDT zero bus turnaround (ZBT) SRAM device.
