|NewsletterNEC Electronics has become the latest firm to use network search engines from Integrated Device Technology to accelerate packet processing in VPN gateways.
Designed to offload tasks from network processors, the 75K62134 NSE uses a glue-less interface conforming to the Network Processor Forum (NPF) Look-Aside (LA-1) standard.
The engine can compute up to 100 million searches per second, said IDT, and can carry out functions such as security, quality of servce and access management control.
"IDT was the first to offer a glue-less LA-1 interface to leading NPUs, and they provided a breadth of software support that is unrivaled in the market," said Hiroshi Ikeda, senior manager of the IP Networks division at NEC.
The firms said they worked closely to optimise software development on this latest project.
The 75K62134 was also recently chosen by Harbour Networks for its Internet protocol IPv6 routers supporting 10Gbit rates.
The device is also being used by Avici Systems in its Multi-Service Connect platform.
