PicoChip has demonstrated its reference design for mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e-2005).

The PicoChip software-upgradeable system is intended as a comprehensive implementation of 16e for both WiMAX Wave 1 and Wave 2 profiles.
 
In addition to providing complete and efficient 16e functionality, the development platform offers scalable support for multi-sector systems, Advanced Antenna Systems (AAS) and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO), with an optional software upgrade from ArrayComm. 

This capability offers the flexibility to scale designs from small basestations up to large multi-sector AAS/MIMO systems.  The reference design also includes a third-party radio for AAS/MIMO, and can also support OBSAI RP3-1 and CPRI variants for remote radio units.
 
PicoChip is also partnering with Wintegra on a complete reference design, which integrates picoChip's multi-core digital signal processor running its 16e PHY with the Wintegra WinMAX access packet processor programmed with 16e upper and lower MAC software for transport and flexible backhaul functionality.
