Clearspeed Technology, the microprocessor accelerator firm which has worked with Intel, AMD and IBM has announced that former Intel man Stephen McKinnon has joined the company as chief operating officer.

McKinnon was most recently Intel’s director of world wide solution sales. "Stephen brings highly relevant experience as we increase our customer focus and build out our capability,” said Tom Beese, Clearspeed chief executive officer.

In June ClearSpeed announced that its processor acceleration technology will be used by IBM in its high power computer systems.

It was a significant endorsement for the Bristol-based firm's embedded parallel processor which is already attracted the attention of the world’s largest processor firms including Intel and AMD.

The device incorporates 96 cores that executes up to 25 billion 64-bit floating point operations per second (Flops). It is claimed to be one of the world's fastest 64-bit floating point processors.

According to McKinnon: “Clearspeed has a unique combination of fundamental technology differentiation together with a clear and sustainable business proposition.”
