Plexus UK has doubled the size of its European design centre on the Alba Campus in Livingston, which could house a team of 30 engineers over the next two years.
“We are continuing to see growth in our core medical, communications and industrial markets throughout Europe and the investment here is the first phase of our wider European expansion plan,” said Andy Allen, Plexus’ v-p for Europe.
Set up in 2002, the Scottish centre is one of six that the manufacturing and design services firm has around the world and is generating significant revenues for Plexus. “Some projects are six figure, representing a million dollars of engineering design,” said Allen. As well as carrying design projects for local customers it also develops RF, FPGA and analogue systems for the rest of the group.
“The Alba Centre has been a good magnet for attracting engineers,” said Allen.
According to Jack Perry, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, the expansion “reinforces the West Lothian region as one of Scotland’s most promising areas in terms of new technology development”.
