The primary market for ZigBee will continue to be control and monitoring applications, with telecoms mobile devices feeding into this, according to Freescale Semiconductor.
“The primary market will be energy management with 75 per cent of the market, including control of heating systems, air conditioning and lighting,” said Cyril Zarader, EMEA marketing manager for ZigBee at Freescale. “It is where we will see the maximum return on investment.”
Last month, the ZigBee Alliance announced it had produced a telecoms profile for the technology which will allow it to be included in mobile phones.
Zarader said this had been driven by Telecom Italia, which would be able “to bring the whole system to the user, not only the mobile phone but the services around it”.
