Fujitsu
has sealed a deal with Vivante, a California-based
graphics processor core developer, to jointly develop a system LSI
for embedded systems.
The LSIs are targeted at products such as mobile phones and
other portable devices. Financial terms of the agreement have not
been disclosed.
The companies said they will use
Fujitsu's 65nm process technology to jointly develop system
LSIs that feature Vivante's 3D rendering capabilities. The
companies claim that by using the new system LSI, manufacturers of
mobile phones and mobile gaming devices will be able to feature
long-running 3D rendering functions.
"Fujitsu's commitment and strength in both multimedia and state
of the art low-power high-performance advanced process technology
is an excellent match with Vivante's focus on delivering mobile
visual reality to customers with a very limited power budget,"
Wei-Jin Dai, Vivante's CEO, said in a statement.
The jointly-developed system LSI device is scheduled to be
available in the second half of 2008 and will be sold by
Fujitsu.
