Newark InOne, the Chicago-based subsidiary of London’s Premier Farnell, is now offering a 580-page catalogue devoted strictly to electronic products that are compliant with the European Union’s Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive.

The front section of the catalogue includes a detailed guide designed to help engineers in North America comply with RoHS, which takes affect on July 1 of this year.

The catalog lists 40,000 in-stock products that are divided into six sections, including semiconductors, passive components, interconnects/wire and cable, electromechanical/power/circuit protection, optoelectronics and soldering.

Hundreds of component suppliers are represented, including Texas Instruments, On Semi, Maxim/Dallas, IR, National, Intersil, AMD, Fairchild, Freescale Honeywell, Tyco and others.

The catalogue presents RoHS-compliant parts with new part numbers if the component suppliers did not create new part numbers for its compliant stock.

Some component suppliers have chosen to indicate compliance by lot code or date code rather than changing the part number itself. In these instances, Newark InOne has assigned new part number to prevent confusion between compliant and non-compliant parts.

“We believe that it’s vital that design engineers know exactly what their suppliers are shipping them,” said Paul Tallentire, president of Newark InOne.

The catalogue can be ordered now at the Newark InOne Web site. It will ship in March while supplies last.
