Luminary Micro, which supplies microcontrollers based on the ARM Cortex-M3 core, has signed up Avnet Memec as its sole UK distributor.

The distributor will carry the Stellaris range of mixed-signal microcontrollers and evaluation kits. According to Luminary Micro, there are over 85 MCUs in the family.

“The Stellaris family is the most extensive family of Cortex-M3 products in the industry," said Stuart Edwards, Avnet Memec UK Country Manager.

Luminary Micro is benefiting from a industry trend which is seeing more developers opting for 32-bit processor designs whereas in the past they may have gone for lower cost 8-bit parts.

According to Ian Fletcher, European sales manager at Luminary Micro, the microcontroller supplier chose Avnet Memec in the UK because of its reputation as a technical distributor.

“Given its line card of deeply technical franchises and demand creation, low reliance on commodities and genuine depth of knowledge of the ARM market and Industrial Ethernet applications, Avnet Memec was the natural choice,” said Fletcher.
