Sir Robin Saxby, chairman emeritus at ARM, has been recognised for his major contribution to the UK's semiconductor design industry at the 2007 Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards.
The Elektra Awards were presented at a gala dinner in London's West End last night, with representatives from the electronics industry recognising the achievements of individuals and companies.
Presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Saxby, who was the first CEO of ARM, Elektra host Sir Trevor McDonald said: "Sir Robin Saxby embodies the combination of entrepreneurial and technical skills which has helped to give the UK a truly world class reputation in high quality semiconductor design."
There were joint winners of the Company of the Year Award with component distributor Anglia Components joining wireless IP firm PicoChip Designs on the winner's rostrum. This was one of three Awards for the Bath-based wireless semiconductor developer.
Bristol-based XMOS Semiconductor was named as Start-up of the Year while Barcelona-based Fractus won the R&D Award for its fractal antenna-in-package technology.
Xilinx headed the product categories by winning the Semiconductor of the Year award with its 65nm Virtex-5 LX FPGA.
The worthy winner of the Student Engineer of the Year Award was Carol Marsh who is an EngD Research Engineer at the iSLI (Institute for System Level Integration), sponsored by Algotronix.
