|NewsletterMotorola is showcasing new mobile TV technology at the Consumer Electronics Show 2008 that will enable users to watch live, on-demand and recorded programs at their leisure.
The electronics giant is using the Las Vegas convention to introduce the Mobile TV DVBH compatible DH01 device. The lightweight pocket-sized personal media player allows TV programs to be saved on a DVR.
For service providers and broadcasters, Motorola’s end-to-end mobile TV technology enables differentiation and attractive new revenue opportunities.
“Mobile TV is expected to grow significantly in 2008 and beyond and Motorola is in a unique position to mobilise the TV experience to deliver broadcast and personalised content wherever and whenever consumers want,” said Navin Mehta, vice president of Mobile TV and Applications Services for Motorola.
Smaller than a paperback novel, Motorola’s Mobile TV DH01 supports the DVBH broadcasting standard as well as open standards interfaces across devices, networks and application service platforms. It will have a 4.3 inch Wide Quarter Video Graphics Array Screen that supports up to 16 million colours and a five minute memory buffer for pause during live TV viewing.
Motorola’s standards-based mobile TV technology includes network infrastructure such as DVBH transmission network equipment, video headend centre equipment and interactive application services delivery platform. In addition to the devices themselves, Motorola also designs, sets up and maintains the network and application services.
The Mobile TV DH01 could be a lucrative proposition for broadcasters as they can reach greater viewing numbers which would appeal to advertisers. For service providers, Motorola’s Mobile TV enables differentiated service offerings with interactive service capabilities to drive APRU and customer loyalty.
Also at the CES 2008, Motorola will introduce its first MPEG-4 set-top box for the cable TV industry. The set-top box range is aimed at growing consumer demand for HD content.
