Electronics Globalpress Summit Conference - News
roundup
AMCC is a company
with an aspiration. "AMCC will be the absolute, unequivocal leader
in OTN", claimed AMCC CEO Kambiz Hooshmand at the
Globalpress Summit
Conference in San Francisco yesterday.
OTN, or optical transport networks, are optimised for data
traffic and Hooshmand is positioning his company as the most
capable player in the industry in the processing, transmission and
storage of information.
Hooshmand is relying on four core competencies to get him there:
RAID controllers, advanced analogue, framers and packet
processing.
Those give AMCC superior capabilities in the processing of video
which, AMCC believes, is driving Internet traffic. "Now the
networks are optimized for data and video and voice rides free on
those networks", said Hooshmand.
"We were the leader in 10Gbit Ethernet and will be the leader in
100Gbit Ethernet", boasted Hooshmand.
The company had revenues of $293m last year and is expected to
do $246m this year, "We have $185m cash and are cash-flow
positive", said Hooshmand.
AMCC recently set up a design centre in Vietnam and is working
with Mentor Graphics
to develop educational courses for the Vietnam National University
of Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM).
