|NewsletterUS LED maker Cree is producing complete lamps for Europe following its acquisition of North Carolina's LED Lighting Fixtures (LLF).
Announced at the Light+Building in Frankfurt this week, the lamp is a 200-240V downlighter for 165mm apertures.
LLF, now renamed Cree LED Lighting Solutions, has colour mixing intellectual property that allows superior colour quality compared with 'white' LEDs.
The fitting, dubbed LR6-230V, achieves a colour rendering index of over 92 and "uses 12W of electricity and produces light comparable to a 75W incandescent", said Cree. "Compared to compact fluorescents, Cree's LED lights use 50 per cent less energy and last up to five times longer."
The US version of the LR6 produces 650 lm from its 12W which is 54 lm/W -equivalent to a low-end linear fluorescent fitting, but well above the 10 lm/W of incandescent lights . High-end linear fluorescents are now producing more than 100 lm/W.
Cree also previewed a 115mm downlight and 600x600mm recessed architectural lights.
Cree LLS is currently taking orders for LR6-230V and will be shipping production quantities this quarter.
It is currently selecting distribution partners for the European and Middle East markets.
