|NewsletterBroadcom says moving its latest Bluetooth chip to 65nm process technology has cut power consumption of next generation Bluetooth version 2.1 + EDR.
The BCM2070 integrates a 2.4GHz class 1 Bluetooth radio for improved output power. Power consumption savings can be up to 40% compared to other Bluetooth designs, said the supplier.
Another feature is the ability to stream stereo music to multiple users simultaneously using the A2DP Bluetooth profile.
Audio capability is improved what Broadcom calls packet loss concealment (PLC) technology that reshapes audio streams, compensating for lost data packets.
It should offer improved digital voice communications. According to Broadcom, the need for improved voice call quality over Bluetooth will increase as governments push for legislation requiring "hands-free" configurations for in-car mobile phone use.
PLC technology has been developed to improve audio quality in wireless systems, which are particularly susceptible to packet loss and connection issues with radio interference occurring from other RF signals, as well as blocking from buildings.
