|NewsletterCambridge-based fabless microcontroller firm Cyan has received an initial order from an Indian company, and is forecasting "a significant quantity of eCOG microcontrollers will be delivered over the next 12 months".
"The Indian developer has already accepted small initial orders but the latest order and forecast from the distributor is indicative of the project moving to full deployment," said Cyan. "The 16bit microcontrollers will be used for vehicle tracking using GPS, enabling logistics optimisation within a new fleet management application."
According to the firm, it also has an order for 100,000 microcontrollers to be delivered to South West Computer in China for use in a wireless utility meter reading system designed with Cyan. "The first deliveries are already taking place with further deliveries scheduled throughout 2009," said the chip maker.
Cyan signed a deal to provide design expertise and microcontroller technology for a range of South West Computer products in October 2007.
The firm's reference design and design-in service is called Cy-Solved.
"In the last year we've applied a lot of development time and effort to our Cy-Solved solutions and this has resulted in a number of notable opportunities," said Cyan CEO Kenn Lamb. "These successes in India and China are just two indicators that this investment is paying off and that our strategies are working."
Mouser Electronics has signed a global distribution agreement with Lamb's firm. "This expands Cyan's reach into the USA where interest in the solutions-based product range has developed considerably over the last 12 months," said Cyan.
