|NewsletterNEC is investing in US-based fixed-mobile technology specialist Kineto Wireless to strengthen its presence in the 3G femtocell mobile phone market.
The aim of fixed mobile convergence (FMC) systems is to support the speedy deployment of voice and data services over broadband access networks.
“Kineto’s FMC solutions are currently enabling mobile operators around the world to deliver a variety of new revenue generating FMC services, including dual-mode handsets, femtocells, terminal adaptors, softmobile clients and more,” said Tadatoshi Fujiwara, general manager of NEC’s Mobile Network Solutions Division.
“Continued strong growth in UMA-based dual-mode handset and terminal adaptor deployments, combined with tremendous operator interest in femtocells, highlight the FMC imperative for mobile operators globally,” said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Kineto Wireless.
Founded in 2001, Kineto Wireless is a privately held, venture-backed supplier of UMA technology, the 3GPP standard for extending mobile voice, data and IMS services over fixed IP access networks.
