Freescale Semiconductor has completed its purchase of Intoto, which supplies networking and communications software.

The deal is seen as sterngthening Freescales's offering in embedded multi-core processor markets such as network servers.

“Intoto’s modular software architecture, broad application-based platforms and engineering talent will enhance our existing single core and multicore enablement capabilities and give our customers comprehensive system solutions to take full advantage of all that our QorIQ platforms have to offer," said said Dr. Lisa Su, senior v-p and general manager of Freescale’s Networking & Multimedia Group.

Freescale's own QorIQ communications platform is based on the PowerQUICC communications processor and Power Architecture cores.

The Freescale QorIQ platforms and roadmap consist of five platforms (P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5) that include single-, dual- and many cores.
