Fabless revenue growth slowed in Q2 as compared to Q1 on a year-over-year basis, according to data from the GSA (Global Semiconductor Alliance).

In its recent quarterly report on financial data for fabless, IDM (integrated device manufacturer), pure-play foundry, intellectual property, electronic design automation, design service, and back-end sectors, the GSA concluded that fabless revenue totaled $13.9 billion in the June quarter, rising 4% quarter-on-quarter and 9% year-over-year.

Q1 fabless revenue climbed 16% year over year, reaching $67.3 billion, according to previously reported data from GSA. However, on a sequential basis, Q2 growth rose compared to Q1's 0.2% growth on Q4 2007.

Fabless revenue for Q2 equated to 21% of the total semiconductor sales in the quarter, according to the industry group.

For the first half of 2008, fabless revenue totaled $27.3 billion, a 12% year-over-year gain, making up 20% of total first half semiconductor sales, GSA reported.

GSA further noted that worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $67.4 billion in Q2, falling 2% quarter-over-quarter, but rising 5% year over year. Worldwide semiconductor revenue totaled $136.1 billion in the first six months, rising 5% year over year.
