Preshow: Fairchild Semiconductor products cut energy consumption

Wednesday 22 October 2008 08:00

Fairchild Semiconductor will have its products for consumer, industrial, automotive and ultra-portable applications on display at electronica 2008. The company will demonstrate products that enable energy-efficient power supplies (AC/DC and DC/DC), motors, LED lighting, automotive, portable systems, solar, induction cooking and TV applications.

With Fairchild Semiconductor technology, innovative power solutions achieve energy savings and increased efficiency while meeting performance, cost and size requirements. They company's high-performance discrete products and highly-integrated devices help design engineers develop energy-efficient electronic applications. For instance, inverter-controlled motors using Fairchild’s Motion-SPM devices use 40% less energy over non-inverter motors.

An energy-efficient set-top box on standby power, using Fairchild’s Green FPS e-Series devices, uses a 10th of the power of a traditional device; and LED lighting, using Fairchild technology, uses a 10th of the power of an incandescent light bulb. Fairchild IGBTs and MOSFETs along with advanced packaging provide efficiency benefits for automotive applications such as engine management, interior displays, braking and safety features.
