RS Components has given its first live demo of an embedded development platform (EDP) for prototyping microcontroller designs, which is claimed to be manufacturer-independent.

It allows designers to evaluate different microcontroller technologies and applications for prototype development independently from manufacturers. The aim is to avoid the need for separate development kits for each microcontroller.

“As a common platform, the EDP reduces design and construction times from weeks to days and the project costs by removing the need to purchase and adapt to multiple manufacturer-specific development kits,” said Nick Jefferies, general manager, Electronics at RS Components.

The platform comprises three elements, including a re-usable baseboard, a combination of up to four CPU modules and up to four application modules.

Full, extensive editorial coverage will be provided on Electronics Weekly, in a special Electronica section. Interviews, latest releases, details of the show, such as floorplans, exposition of latest technologies... Simply bookmark: www.electronicsweekly.com/electronica2008
