GreenPeak has introduced a low power wireless radio transceiver
design for home remote control devices.
The company has developed a set of reference designs for 2.4GHz,
IEEE 802.15.4-compliant modules for integration into TVs, DVDs and
set-top boxes.
GreenPeak
is a fabless semiconductor company based in Utrecht, the
Netherlands.
It specialises in the development of low power RF transceivers
based on the IEEE 802.15.4/ZigBee wireless networking standard,
incorporating energy harvesting to facilitate battery-free
operation.
Based on the firm’s Emerald GP500C communication controller, the
module is designed to be low power. “For RF remote controls
equipped with the communication controller, a single watch type
battery can outlast the life time of the remote,” claimed the
company.
The reference designs will be delivered with a protocol stack of
less than 4kbyte. They are also based on a single layer low cost
PCB with integrated antennas, which will reduce the cost of bill of
materials.
“The new RF communication controller opens a market for low
cost, reliable high speed RF remote controls, as IEEE 802.15.4
remote controls will allow a completely new way to use a remote
control,” said Cees Links, CEO of GreenPeak.
The reference designs for remote controls will be launched at
the
CES show
in Las Vegas.
