PicoChip has announced the PC8219, a baseband platform for
higher capacity femtocell netwrtoks.
The programmable reference design will support eight-user WCDMA
femtocells designed to run on the supplier’s established PC202
processor chip.
The PC8219, which is based on the programmable picoArray, is a
complete eight-user femtocell baseband implementation that is
compliant with 3GPP Release 6 HSUPA and can support the
femto-specific features from Release 8.
“Eight-user femtocell deployment is emerging as a top priority for
many network operators, who see the potential to offer enhanced
services to business customers,” said Nigel Toon, president and CEO
at Bath-based picoChip.
The programmable platform is intended to allow OEMs to create early
stage products, which can be field proven but committing to a
system-on-chip platform for volume production.
