Embedded Linux boots in one second

MontaVista claims it will demonstrate a dashboard application fully operational in one second from cold boot.

"It's always been thought that embedded Linux could never perform at this level of speed and efficiency," said Jim Ready, CTO of MontaVista.

The application was built on MontaVista Professional Edition Linux and Freescale's MPC5121e Power Architecture hardware.

"These performance improvements were achieved through a combination of careful tuning of the entire software stack and a highly optimised kernel," said MontaVista.

The firm is aiming mainly at industrial automation, but is also expecting automotive, aerospace, and military applications.
