Nextreme's HV14 micro heat pump is now available for military and aerospace use, having passed the 3,000g shock test of MIL-STD 883E.
The 3mm2 pump is aimed at cooling lasers, photodiodes and LEDs, and can shift 1.5W of heat at 85°C. Maximum temperature difference at zero heat transfer is 60°C.
"The use 
of thin films in conjunction with our semiconductor-based assembly process reduces the mass of our devices substantively," said Nextreme v-p of engineering Dave Koester.
"Our thermoelectric coolers and power generation devices are inherently more resistant to shock and vibration than standard bulk devices while at the same time providing performance advantages."
HV14 is one of the firm's so called high-voltage devices, operating at a maximum of 2.7V 
rather than under 1V.
