For the audio in its M1 media player, Samsung has turned to
Edinburgh-based fabless chip firm
Wolfson Microelectronics.
The touch-controlled M1 features 720p video playback, an active
matrix OLED display and a built-in speaker.
Inside are Wolfson's
WM8351
power management IC, which also has a stereo audio codec, and its
WM9001 1W mono
speaker driver which can be switched between Class-AB and
Class-D.
"We are delighted that Samsung has selected our technology for
its media player," said Jess Brown, power management product line
manager at Wolfson.
