Phyworks increases range of XAUI backplanes

Phyworks has announced a quad backplane equaliser IC that can drive four 3.125Gbit/s XAUI data lanes at distances of up to 1.5m on FR-4 PCBs.

The chip uses a continuous time equalisation technology to compensate for all backplane trace losses, between MAC and PMD or MAC and switch.

The PHY3980 consumes 200mW/channel at a supply voltage of 3.3V driving four active data lanes.

There is also a dedicated lane shutdown function which enables designers to manage power on a traffic per lane basis.

The IC is available in the 11x11mm 44-pin QFN package.
