Dialog Semiconductor has scored a design win in the GW880 smartphone from LG for its power management and audio technology.

The smartphone incorporates the DA9035 power management IC and audio/voice codec.

The chip integrates a 24-bit audio processor, touch screen controller, LED/vibrator driver and system-level power management functionality for 3G cellular platforms.

This is the latest in a series of LG design wins for Dialog over the past 12 months.

The 3G Smartphone is currently available on the China Mobile network and features a 3.5 inch (800x480) WVGA touch screen.

“We're delighted to strengthen this relationship as LG continue to move forward in the Android Smartphone sector,” said Dr Jalal Bagherli, CEO of Dialog Semiconductor.

According to Bagherli, the implementation of the Android OS adds features but requires greater power management in the handset.

“However, this means users are running power intensive software for greater periods, yet demand that battery life is unaffected,” said Bagherli.
