Icera says Q4 revenues were four times its Q4 2008 revenues

Icera Semiconductor, the Bristol-based wireless baseband specialist, says its Q4 2009 revenues were four times its Q4 2008 revenues.

The company is privately held and doesn't reveal any actual figures. So far, Icera has raised over $200m in venture capital since it was founded in 2002. It is expected to go for an IPO this year.

During the last quarter of 2009 several of Icera's customers began shipping Icera-powered devices at 14Mbps, says the company. 14Mbps represents a doubling of peak data rates for users, says Icera, and a major node for many operators in 2010.

'Icera is now sampling its 21Mbps HSPA+ modem technology, uniquely by way of a software enhancement for the same chipset', says the company.

"'Multiple, major mobile network operators specified Icera chipsets for Mobile Broadband devices in 2009", said Icera CEO Stan Boland, "that's because our advanced soft modem technology is the most effective way to maximize live network user data rates, simultaneously supporting strong subscriber demand and quality of service. With more product companies making Icera-based devices available every quarter, using our technology is now a simple and viable choice. We were also pleased to achieve our first voice-qualified product in 2009, signalling our intention to take our technology into the SmartPhone market in the future.'

Q4 2009 represents the company's sixth successive quarter of growth. Icera's chipsets are used in high performance, high speed Mobile Broadband devices such as USB modem sticks, embedded modules for netbooks and eReaders and future SmartPhones.
