Renesas Electronics, the soon to be merged semiconductor businesses of Renesas Technology and NEC, will retain European headquarters in the UK and Germany.

The European president and CEO of the merged business will be Robert Green.

Green, who is currently the European president and CEO of NEC Electronics, will also be managing director of the UK-based business.

Chairman of the European business will be Tsutomu Miki, currently Renesas Technology's European CEO and president.

NEC Electronics and Renesas Technology said the new positions will be in place following the formal integration of the business on April 1, 2010.

The companies signed an agreement to merge in September and this will become business reality next April when it will create a semiconductor business with sales of around $12bn.

Renesas will become one of the largest semiconductor companies without a volume memory chip business.

Increasing sales outside of the Japanese market will be a plan for the merged company.
