TSMC is to create 2,400 new permanent jobs. They will initially be offered to contract and part-time staff.

"By doing this, we believe we can take care of more employees and boost morale," said TSMC chairman Morris Chang in an email to all TSMC’s employees.

In January TSMC said it would hire 3,000 engineers this year. The additions will boost TSMC’s global workforce by more than 10%.

Yesterday TSMC announced February sales of Taiwan $29bn (US$912m) compared to Taiwan $11.5bn (US$361m) in February 2008.

For the first two months of 2010, TSMC has had revenues of Taiwan$58.3bn (US$1.8bn)

For Q1 2010, TSMC expects to see revenues of Taiwan $89-91bn (US$2.8-2.86bn) for a gross profit margin of 46.5-48.5%.
