Dialog Semiconductor has announced its second generation of its power supply plus audio chips for phones, this time with a Class G codec.

The DA9057 has five on-board dc/dc converters, and a dual-input switching USB power manager with Li-ion battery charger.

There is also a power sequencer with a programmable filter/mixer engine to support ARM-based multimedia processors. A dedicated programming graphical user interface is available to set the power sequencing

On the audio side, the 24bit stereo audio headphone playback channel operates on a 5mW power budget.

The true-ground Class G headphone driver is claimed to be up to 70 per cent more efficient than a standard Class AB amplifier.

For loudspeakers there is a partner chip, the DA7201, which is a 3W filterless Class D driver capable of driving 4ohm loads.

Designed to interface directly to the DA9057's differential line outputs, it occupies a 1.5mm2 footprint and delivers peak efficiency greater than 90 per cent.

Both the 7x7mm DA9057 and DA7201 allow direct battery connection.

Other functions integrated on DA9057 include a programmable LED backlight driver, backup coin-cell charger, touchscreen interface, voice band codec with side tone, ALC (automatic level control), general purpose filter engine and 5-band equaliser.

Samples of the DA9057 are available now, followed by the DA7201 in April.

Volume production delivery is scheduled for Q4.
