Apple’s iPhone 4 can suffer from connectivity problems compared to other smartphones, says PA Consulting Group.
The wireless consultancy tested the iPhone 4’s performance and compared it with other smartphones, such as the Blackberry 9700 and HTC HD2.
Overall performance was in the same range as other smartphones. “But it was consistently at the lower end of that range,“ said PA.
PA then found that when used in the so-called ‘death grip’, “the iPhone 4’s performance was significantly worse than other smartphones”.
“Our tests indicate that the 'death grip' issue is real, and is worse for the Apple iPhone 4 than for other smartphones,” said Simon Tonks, the consultant who led the testing at PA’s Cambridge Technology Centre.
Tonks said they also found that the iPhone 4 tended to “drop calls earlier than other phones and may suffer more in areas of weak signal”.
“Though, overall it's still within the normal performance range for similar products,” said Tonks.
