NXP has 'smallest Cortex-M0'

NXP is sampling a 5mm2 ARM Cortex-M0 microcontroller, claiming it to be the world's smallest.

LPC1102 includes 32kbyte of flash and 8kbyte of RAM in a wafer level chip-scale 2.17x2.32x0.6mm package with 0.5mm pitch.

Features include a four channel 10bit ADC, one UART, one SPI interface, two 32bit timers, two 16bit timers, and one 24bit system timer.

"Serial wire debugging and programming with four breakpoints and two watchpoints are also included," said the NXP.

Eleven I/O functions double as general purpose input and output pins.

Active mode current is as low as 130uA/MHz, and the internal RC oscillator is accurate to +/-1% over the industrial temperature and voltage range. It can also be clocked with an external source.

The chip will supported by third party development tools, said NXP, as well as the firm's own LPCXpresso http://ics.nxp.com/lpcxpresso/ which is an Eclipse-based integrated development environment.

Samples will be available later this month for key customers at ESC 2010 Silicon Valley, and in May worldwide.

Volume production starts in Q4.
