Huawei, the China-based telecoms network provider, intends to launch a commercial system for 56Mbit/s HSPA+ next year.
With the potential to double download speeds, 56Mbit/s High Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+) network will incorporate multi-carrier and MIMO (multiple-input-multiple-output) technologies.
Operators Japan EMOBILE, Singapore StarHub, Vodafone Turkey and Hong Kong PCCW already operate commercial HSPA+ networks supplied by Huawei, which support downlink speeds of up to 21Mbit/s.
The system was demonstrated in Beijing last week at P&T/Wireless & Networks Comm China 2009.
“Advances in mobile broadband, particularly record breaking data speeds and capacity of HSPA networks, have had a profound impact on the telecom industry and demonstrate the enormous potential of UMTS/HSPA,” said Wan Biao, president of wireless at Huawei.
To date Huawei has deployed over 10 commercial HSPA+ network contracts. In Asia Pacific, Huawei has also deployed a commercial 28Mbit/s HSPA+ network.
