Catrene, the €6bn pan-European microelectronics R&D programme under the Eureka banner, is launching a new call for project proposals.
Europe’s high tech industry, small- and medium-sized enterprises as well as research institutes and academia are invited to submit as a first step project outlines from 2 March to 30 April 2009.
Subsequently full proposals have to be delivered. Following the project evaluation and selection process, final decisions and labelling of projects are foreseen at the end of September 2009. It can be assumed that chosen projects will start as of 1 January 2010.
The first call for Catrene projects in 2008, involved 4000 researchers from 140 partner organisations in 13 countries.
Catrene (Cluster for Application and Technology Research in Europe) is a four year programme aimed at achieving leading positions for Europe in a number of key applications areas: communications, security, transportation, healthcare, energy and environmental protection, entertainment and infotainment.
In the latter group, there is a project for 3D television. In the healthcare group, there will be projects aimed at implanted hearing aids, artificial vision, pacemakers, artificial livers and insulin dispensers.
