The Advanced Digital Institute has opened in West Yorkshire to help high-tech firms identify and develop products.
Funded with £2m, the centre has already opened but future plans include an R&D centre with labs and business incubation units.
The organisation will initially focus on emerging wireless communications technologies, digital TV and consumer networking technologies. It aims to generate 160 new jobs and create 25 new companies during its first five years.
Ged Powell , CEO of the ADI, said: “Our growth will be based on recruiting and building teams of specialist R&D engineers augmented by secondments from both industry and university research groups.”
Powell spent the past ten years as chief strategy officer in NTT DoCoMo’s US research labs in California and as multimedia research programme manager at the Institute of Microelectronics, National University of Singapore.
