LSI has announced an expansion of its ARM licensing in a move to develop high throughput networking devices for applications such as mobile video and cloud computing.
LSI will license ARM processors, including the ARM Cortex-A15 processor with virtualization support and future ARM processors. It is also adopting ARM on-chip interconnect technology, including CoreLink cache coherent interconnect system IP, for use in multicore applications
“Customers need high-performance, power-efficient solutions to help effectively manage the unprecedented growth in network traffic being driven by smartphones, tablets and cloud-based services, without impacting user experience,” said Jeff Richardson, executive vice president and chief operating officer, LSI.
The intention is to design multicore devices based on the combination of ARM and LSI’s own IP to support high bandwidth networks while preserving power-efficiency.
