Fingerprint recognition makes NFC secure

Atmel is working with French contactless card system developer TazTag to implement fingerprint recognition to create a secure NFC module which can be used to protect personal data.

The design will use Atmel’s AT98SC016CU security module in a NFC electronic wallet designed by TazTag which will incorporate fingerprint recognition.

According to Eric Fouchard, CEO of TazTag: “The cooperation between a fingerprint sensor and the AT98SC016CU safely protects the access to personal data and the applications in the TazCard.”

The intention is to create a ‘security safe’ with a touch screen, a fingerprint sensor and supporting communications interfaces, such as NFC, USB and ZigBee.

The expectation is that it will be used in applications such as access control, ticketing, couponing and payment.

TazTag will demonstrate the TazCard at CeBIT, in Hannover, Germany, next week.
